Keeping Calm During Chaos

During these turbulent times, it is difficult to be happy and maintain a positive and calm mindset, and it is even harder to be motivated with so much stress and anxiety surrounding recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, political discourse, financial hardships, and social distancing from friends and loved ones. When people around you appear to be constantly complaining about current events, it is especially difficult to be positive. Instead of commiserating with those persons or staying “stuck” in negativity, you can make the conscious choice to be positive and look at things in a more optimistic viewpoint.

Although it is easier said than done, it is possible. You have to make the choice to either be pessimistic about life or you can make the decision to be optimistic. One of the best ways to be successful at becoming more optimistic is to avoid negative or toxic people who zap positive energy out of their surroundings . In addition, it is crucial for your own sanity to establish healthy boundaries with people who choose to remain negative. I am sure you have heard the old saying: “Misery loves company.”

Limiting your social media and news intake, which constantly depict tragic stories and negative opinions, can also help you have a more positive outlook. Reframing extremely negative thoughts into more positive and encouraging ones can lead to a healthier, calmer, and happier life for you and for those around you.

Together, we will get through this. Barbara BEEKS Director, Advisory & Safeguarding Manager bbeeks@boswaalliance.com www.BoswaAlliance.com
