Barbara graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor in Sociology degree and later attended Webster University where she received a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Education degree at Liberty University.
In her career, Barbara has worked over 25 years providing counseling services and social work services to families in need. Currently, she works as a mental health counselor at a leading community college creating awareness about mental health issues and helping decrease stigma associated with counseling.
She also provides counseling services to students at the college by providing a safe place for them to express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without being judged. In 2019, Barbara’s Counseling Department received the national Innovator of the Year Award for their tireless work in decreasing the stigma of mental health at the college. They were also invited to present at the annual College Counseling Conference in San Diego, California in 2019.
Barbara has been a dedicated trustee on the School Board in her community for the last 10 years. She has attended numerous conferences and has gained invaluable knowledge about the educational process and the importance of young people receiving the best education possible.
Barbara’s deep experience and knowledge will be beneficial in giving athletes the necessary tools to successfully manage and enhance their mental well-being and increase their coping strategies in dealing with personal stressors and issues that may arise during their career.
